Getting Started on Navion Pro

Module 1: Introduction to Trading & Financial Markets

You have spent nine chapters building a foundation. You understand why people trade. You know how markets work, who participates in them, and what a CFD is. You understand leverage, margin, brokers, asset classes, trading jargon, and the events that move markets.

Now it is time to take that knowledge from the page to the platform.

This chapter walks you through your first steps on Navion Pro, from opening your account to placing your first trade on a demo account. Nothing here requires real money. The goal is simply to make the platform feel familiar before you are ready to trade with real capital.

10.2

The demo account — your training ground

Before any serious trader puts real money at risk in a new environment, they practice. A pilot does not take passengers on their first solo flight. A surgeon practices procedures in controlled settings before operating on real patients. A trader tests their understanding on a demo account before risking real capital.

A demo account is a simulated trading environment that uses real market prices but virtual funds. On Navion Pro you can open a demo account and trade exactly as you would with a real account, opening positions, setting stop losses and take profits, managing margin, and experiencing the full range of market movements in real time.

What a demo account teaches you
  • The mechanics of the platform, how to open, modify, and close trades
  • The feel of different instruments, how they move and when they are most active
  • The practical application of concepts you have learned in Playbook
  • How your emotions respond when a trade goes against you, even with virtual money
  • Whether your trading ideas actually work before real money is at risk

The demo account does not teach you everything. The psychological pressure of real money, the fear when a trade goes against you, the temptation to hold a winner too long, is reduced when there is nothing real at stake. But it does teach you the mechanics of the platform and the practical application of the concepts you have learned.

Use it. Use it thoroughly. Use it until every action on the platform feels instinctive before you deposit a single dollar.

10.3

Opening your Navion Pro account

When you are ready to move beyond the demo account, opening a live account involves the standard identity verification, known as KYC, required of every regulated broker. Once verified, you can choose an account type suited to your trading style.

10.4

Your first look at the platform

When you log into Navion Pro for the first time, whether on the web platform, the desktop application, or the mobile app, you will see the MT5 trading interface. MT5 is the industry standard trading platform used by millions of traders worldwide. It is powerful, reliable, and once you are familiar with it, intuitive.

Market Watch
  • Live prices for all instruments
  • Scroll through available instruments
  • Double click any to open a trade
Chart Area
  • Price history and technical analysis
  • Change timeframes to see different views
  • Draw levels and apply indicators
Terminal Panel
  • Open positions and account history
  • Monitor your live trades in real time
  • See your balance, equity and margin
Order Panel
  • Where you place trades
  • Set size, stop loss and take profit
  • Buy and sell with one click

Take time to explore. Open the market watch and scroll through the instruments available. Click on EUR/USD and look at the chart. Change the timeframe from one hour to one day to see how the same price history looks at different scales. This is not wasted time. Familiarity with the platform is a genuine edge. When the market moves quickly you do not want to be fumbling with menus.

10.5

Placing your first demo trade

Here is a step by step walkthrough of placing your first trade on the demo account.

Find EUR/USD in the market watch panel and double click it. A new order window will open. You will see the current bid and ask prices, a field for your trade size in lots, and options to set a stop loss and take profit.

Your first demo trade — step by step
  • Keep the size small. Enter 0.01 lots, a micro lot, the smallest standard position size
  • Decide whether you want to buy or sell based on what you know about current market conditions
  • Set a stop loss 20 to 30 pips away to cap your maximum loss on the trade
  • Set a take profit at approximately double your stop loss distance for a 1:2 risk to reward ratio
  • Click the button to place the trade and watch it update live in your terminal panel

Notice how the unrealised profit and loss fluctuates as the market moves. Notice how your account equity changes. Notice how the spread meant you started the trade slightly in the red. This is trading. You have just done it for the first time.

Position size
0.01 lots
Start with the smallest available size
Stop loss
20 to 30 pips
Gives the trade room to breathe
Take profit
40 to 60 pips
Double the stop for 1:2 risk to reward
Risk per trade
$2 to $5
On a micro lot with a 20 to 30 pip stop

What comes next

One trade on a demo account does not make you a trader any more than one lesson makes you a musician. But it does make the abstract concrete. You have gone from learning about financial markets to actually participating in them, even if in a simulated environment.

From here, continue using the demo account while you work through the rest of Playbook. Each module you complete adds a layer of understanding that makes your trading more informed. Technical analysis in Module 2 will help you decide when to enter and exit trades. Fundamental analysis in Module 3 will help you understand why markets move. Risk management in Module 9 will help you protect what you earn.
